Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri - Fairly out of the "within reach" zone, but a very plausible and well thought setting, focus on space colonization and great gameplay earn it a place here. Space Station Manager - Looks amazing, but apparently another dead end project. SpaceStationSim - Craptastic website out the 90's doesn't do justice to an apparently well-modeled and realistic simulator, based on real ISS modules. Moonbase - Old DOS/Amiga game, a kind of "moonbase tycoon".Įarth Orbit Stations - Old Apple II game. Still worth the free download and a stroll on Mars.Īstronaut: Moon, Mars and Beyond - Strong smell of overhyped vaporware, but they have all the right goals: "Real science, technology, engineering, mathematics and physics content is infused throughout the AMMB universe". Race to Mars - A couple of simple, kid-oriented games to promote the (pretty nice) mockumentary. Moonbase Alpha - An official NASA game most people here probably already know of. Mars Simulation Project - Open source, Mars settlement administration simulator in java, apparently extremely detailed and realistic. Mars Colony Simulator - Indie 3D/first person "RPG", looks very interesting, with even an online version, but development seem to have been dragging through years. I dig "dreams within reach", the kind of thing people like to discuss here or on nasaspaceflight forums, and I think it's a much neglected end of the spectrum game-wise, so I focused my search on this. I'm not really into far-fetched galactic/humanoid aliens/laser guns stuff. I ended up with a pretty interesting compilation including a few rather obscure gems, and thought I should share. I'm thinking about writing one myself one day so that ispired me to do a bit of research. There was a thread a few days ago about space colonization games.
